Arduino Brushless DC Speed AND Direction Control Setup (Part 1)

Speed and direction control of an 8A Brushless DC motor ($7) using an 18A ESC ($8) and a 10A Double Pole Double Throw [DPDT] relay ($10). Speed control is achieved by varying the duty cycle of a 50Hz digital pulse from the Arduino to the ESC signal wire. Direction control is achieved by wiring the ESC==Relay==Motor so that when the relay switches, it reverses two of the three phases to the motor.

Saber build upgrade with ultrasound 2.5

Saber upgrade Decided to upgrade my previous US 2.5 saber with a red DPDT momentary switch and a rumble motor. Specs : - US 2.5 sound pcb (got this at the time they were still produced through JQsabers) - 6V battery (4 x 1,5 V AA) holder/speaker setup (JQsabers or TCSS) - rumble motor = these run at 1 to 3 Volts. I got those from JQsabers and judgesabersmith at FX-sabers. I tested some resistors in series for the 6V setup and came up with a 56 Ohms 1/4 Watt resistor. - DPDT momentary red illuminated switch from TCSS - saber parts : pommel, pommel insert, hilt, choke and emitter - Luxeon III amber main LED - Luxeon III 6° lens holder/lens - O-rings - kill switch Build log : I started the build with the idea of running the rumble motor directly from the L1/L2 solder pads on the US 2.5 pcb. For some reason this did not work because of a major voltage drop as soon as i connected motor to the US 2.5 pcb. Either L1 or L2 did not work. So i had to rethink my strategy for the rumble motor and decided to wire it directly to the main voltage supply after the kill-switch. This way it starts rumbling as soon as i unplug the kill switch. Not my original idea, but a decent solution nevertheless. Secondly, i now had 2 choices for illuminating the red ring on my DPDT momentary switch. I decided to go with the L1 on the US 2.5 pcb. L1 mimics the main LED on the switch. L2 gives it a idle flashing mode. The LED can be wired directly to the pcb so no resistor needed here. Cramming all of ...

Scrolling LED eye circuit (unmounted)

This was a circuit I built for a friend's helmet for an Atlas Halloween costume. The eye addition was inspired by the Raider/Centurion Cylons in Battlestar Galactica to prompt us to make a Mechwarrior-Cylon hybrid. Circuit schematic can be found at www.qsl.net which is a very elegant design, with me modifying the circuit considerably. No microcontrollers (or PICs) were used for this circuit, which probably would have made my life much, much easier. Two strips of 8 LEDs were mounted in a line to allow for either one single bar mounting on the helmet as a single eye, or two separate eyes. Modifications to this circuit included the 74HC138s driving individual 2N3096 PNP switch transistors to switch on LEDs that was in series with a 220ohm resistor (to adjust for LED brightness) and a 220uF capacitor (to adjust for fade time) that was in parallel with the LED and resistor. Without this modification, the LED would have simply turned on and off without any fade. I could have probably used a single 220ohm resister to sink all of the LEDs, but I was too lazy to protoboard it to verify whether it would have worked. Input signals to the flip flop with the 74HC14 had a DPDT switch that poled pin 15 of the right HC138 instead of the left one and synchronized chip select (pin 6 of the left HC138) to the output of pin 2 of the CD4516 for both demultiplexers to allow for simultaneous output and "inline" LED sweeping (though you could just reverse it by flipping one set of LEDs ...

Let's Play Super Mario Galaxy - Deep Dark Galaxy (The Underground Ghost Ship) [86]

Mario has traveled to the Deep Dark Galaxy in search of a power star which is currently being held captive by Kamella's Septer. Mario must light up torches from a fire flower found on a distant satellite planetoid. Use the invincibility star to kill all of those annoyingly insane Pink Shooters. Get the fire flower rush back to the base planet and light the torches. The gate opens once the torches are lit. Rush inside, kill off Kamek (Kamella's Evil Minion). Dive under water vertically downwards, follow a tunnel horizontally, flip a switch to open a gate. Rise back upward to the surface of the water. Mario hits another flip switch to open up another gate. This switch is being guarded by Blooper's Brothers (a similar aquatic life form). Mario now lands upon the shores of a Ghost Ship, climb up a wall to find a Double Life Mushroom, ooh, yummy. Head towards the ghost ship for the Kamella boss battle. This part is featured in the second video because this is a two-parter video. Mario must grab green shells based on the glowing green of Kamella's septer and wizardy powers. He throws green magic that turns into shells. Catch those green shells with a spin or go up close to them. Mario must aim and fire them back at Kamella. The first hit is done with Kamella off of the stage, the second hit will be done with Kamella on the stage of the Ghost Ship. Kamella gets ticked off and amps up his attacks in the crow's next of the Ghost Ship. Mario must climb up the pole and get up to ...
