Speed and direction control of an 8A Brushless DC motor ($7) using an 18A ESC ($8) and a 10A Double Pole Double Throw [DPDT] relay ($10). Speed control is achieved by varying the duty cycle of a 50Hz digital pulse from the Arduino to the ESC signal wire. Direction control is achieved by wiring the ESC==Relay==Motor so that when the relay switches, it reverses two of the three phases to the motor.

Blue Fox - K'nex Ball Machine
This is Blue Fox, my most complex K'nex structure to date. This ball machine has 17 paths, 22000 pieces, 6 lift mechanisms (including a computerized robot arm) and 7 motors. I designed and constructed this machine over the course of over 10 months, due to a lack of free time during the school year. The ball machine is supported on a system of three giant arches, which are actually sections of the curved support for my world-record-setting K'nex looping roller coaster. This video was directed and filmed by Kevin C. Walker (www.KevinCWalker.com). Some one-of-a-kind elements in Blue Fox include - Computerized robot arm ball lift - Bi-directional ferris wheell path switcher (gives the machine "moods") - Automatic repeating ball launcher - Anti-gravity track (ball accelerates while moving uphill) - Giant Tube (Big-Air Ball tower clear tubing used as an overhead bridge) - Illuminated Loop (Arduino-controlled LEDs chase the ball around the giant loop) - Glowing LED Ball Information: Build time - 10 months Pieces - 22000 Motors - 7 Ball Lifts - 6 Paths - 17 Switches - 12 Moving Parts - 120 Gears - 86 Max Balls - 20 FAQ: Q. What is the song? A. The song is Last Days by Max Richter. Q. What did you use to illuminate the machine? A. There are 3 strings of 25 foot blue rope light and 3 blue outdoor flood lights. In addition, there are 24 ultrabright LEDs scattered throughout the machine. Q. What camera did you use? A. The majority of the video was filmed with a Canon EOS 7D. The wide ...

Alze's N gauge railway - update4th April 2011
Tonight I completed the work on the loop-back with flex track on both town and mountain sections. This results in bi-direciton loops and a the branch line is also changeable in its direction of running (Not show in this vid, but sure to come) In the town section loop back i have left a straight section to allow for a level crossing so the space within the loop isnt wasted. On the mountain line the turnout connecting the mountin line station and mountain line loop back is gone. I'm pondering wether to make some sidings or not, i quike the space for modelling, but also recognize that sidings look really nice when done well. Opinions welcome !

Ululatron
This is my modification of a Yamaha PSS-50 keyboard. It uses 6 555 times and vactrols to trigger the keys. Rate is controller via potentiometer and note is controlled with 5 rotary switches and a dpdt switch (there were two notes left over). I called it the "ululatron" because it goes into and out of patterns like a pendulums swinging at different rates. There are no effects on the sound. What you hear is the very first thing I did--I'm sure with some more practice it can sound better. And some reverb and delay of course ;-)
