Boss RC-2 Loop Station DIY tap tempo switch - the right way

Most people I've found building their own tap tempo switches for Boss products use the wrong switch and as a result have unusual and unwanted side effects to their switch. The problem stems from using a Normally Open switch that most people are finding at Radio Shack. What you need is a Normally Closed switch. Radio Shack doesn't sell any foot friendly, push-button SPST-NC switches, so you'll have to get them from an online store or a local specialty shop. Maybe some guitar parts suppliers have them too, I don't know. Note that this goes for other Boss products that use an external switch. My ME-50B also requires Normally Closed switches for proper operation, and I suspect that most if not all other boss products work this way. This might be what the polarity switch on the official Boss product does: one side is NC and the other side is NO. A potential part from Digikey that would work for this is 679-1023-ND. It's a "mini" plug, so it's barely foot friendly, but it will fit the bill. Edit: Turns out that there is a Mini SPST-NC switch at Radio Shack. They come in packs of four. They only sell them in mini size for some reason, so again, be careful when using your foot with these. But they will work, and since they come in four packs, you might as make double tap tempos with a stereo jack. The project box shown in the video could easily fit the stereo jack and both switches, although they'd be quite close together for your feet. Pardon the crappy video quality, I'm using ...

Real Working Ghostbusters Trap!

Ghostbusters Trap, made for my nephew. www.pacmaps.com It's not an exact replica, I just kind of made it as I went along. Doors are electric, powered by a car window actuator on eBay ($5.00). Everything else I got from home depot or radio shack, except the DPDT momentary stomp switch (usually used for guitars, $4.00) from a website. All together, it has 6 LEDs, 1 Red Light, 3 C batteries, 8 AAs, three switches, and a lot of wiring!

How to Make a TRE for GSXR 1000 (timing retard eliminator)

This does the same thing as a JSD TRE, Ivan's TRE, except for a smart TRE. your going to need a transistor for that. Showing how to make a TRE for a GSXR 1000. For those of you that don't know what a TRE is, it's a Timing Retard Elimanator. what it does is eliminate the timing retard in the 1st four gears of the bike. It increases horsepower, torque, and response in the lower rpm band. Suzuki has deliberately programmed the ECM for less than maximal torque in the first four gears. Presumably, this is done to protect the rider from the full power! What they've done is to "retard" the timing, or make the spark occur TOO LATE, on purpose, so that maximal torque is NOT acheived. What you wil need is: -SPDT/DPDT switch -Electrical wire, something thick enough so it won't break -Carbon Film Resistor: 6800 ohm for GSXR 1000 15000 ohm for GSXR 600/750 -Soldering Iron -solder -electrical pliers -multimeter to double check if it's the right resistor and to see if it's working (optional) -Dremmel/Drill for making a hole to put the switch somewhere accesible NOTE: all of these can be found at your nearest Radioshack/hardware store. it's better than buying a $20+ JSD/Ivans TRE

The Start on my LED Light Bar

I've gotten started on the light bar i am building to provide some ambient light effects behind my new monitors that i will be getting in soon. I picked up a stick of small wire-mold at Lowe's and a single pole double throw switch so that i can expand later on the same switch... I used an old RF remote receiver casing to house the switch and stuck it to the under side of my desk for easy access... three LEDs are wired in series with 2x100ohm resistors (slightly more than it should be which is about 180) but they are still pretty bright...

Precharge delay circuit (boring)

This is a little circuit which uses a 555 timer and a resistor/capacitor arrangement to delay the onset of a relay. I plan on using this to delay the activation of the main contactor while the precharge circuit is enabled. So far so good. The larger DPDT relay is going to be used to switch the precharge circuit on via the ACC position on the starter key. It is good for 30 V DC but I'm asking it to do 115 V DC. Bigger spark, low current. We'll see how long it lasts.
